TST1NTSDNormal terminal stopping device

The car must slow onto the directional limit and level back to the terminal landing. The Final Limit must never be reached during this test.

Up empty · Down —
Per A17.1-2019 §§8.10.2.2.2(ff)(1), 2.25.2.1.1 and 2.25.2.1.3, the NTSD must automatically slow and stop the car at or near the terminal and remain effective without reaching the Final Limit.
TST2ETSEmergency terminal speed limiting

Complete two separate ETS runs. For each run, record the speed the car passes the directional limit; it must be below that terminal's buffer nameplate rated striking speed.

Run 1 · Top terminal ETS

Empty car — run UP
REFERENCE
NOT RUN

Run 2 · Bottom terminal ETS

Rated load — run DOWN
REFERENCE
NOT RUN
Pass: each run's recorded directional-limit passage speed must be below its terminal's buffer nameplate rated striking speed.
Per A17.1-2019 §§8.10.2.2.2(ff)(2) and 2.25.4.1.1, the ETS must reduce car and counterweight speed so the rated buffer striking speed is not exceeded.
TST3Car BuffersHigh-speed or inspection-speed verification

Complete either approved method. The section passes when either method passes.

Method 1 · High-speed buffer test

NOT TESTED
Run down at rated capacity —

Method 2 · Inspection speed — verify buffers return

NOT TESTED
Run down at rated capacity —
Pass: both confirmations in Method 1 or both confirmations in Method 2 are Yes.
A tested buffer method must pass every required confirmation. Correct the deficiency and retest before acceptance.
TST3Counterweight BuffersHigh-speed or inspection-speed verification

Complete either approved method. The section passes when either method passes.

Method 1 · High-speed buffer test

NOT TESTED
Run up, car empty

Method 2 · Inspection speed — verify buffers return

NOT TESTED
Run up, car empty
Pass: both confirmations in Method 1 or both confirmations in Method 2 are Yes.
A tested buffer method must pass every required confirmation. Correct the deficiency and retest before acceptance.
TST4Car safety + governorRequired overspeed plus either safety method

The governor electrical overspeed switch must pass, plus either Method 1 or Method 2.

Rated load —

Governor overspeed switch · required

NOT RUN

Enter rated speed to show the table maximum.

Method 1 · Rated-speed safety test

NOT TESTED
NOT RUN

Enter rated speed to show the permitted dog-trip range.

Recorded measurement; not scored.

Method 2 · Inspection-speed safety test

NOT TESTED

Overspeed must pass, plus either safety method.

NOT TESTED
Required overspeed: electrical switch ≤90% of entered dog trip through 500 fpm rated speed, or ≤95% above 500 fpm. Without an entered dog, the switch is scored against the contract-speed table maximum. Section pass: overspeed passes and Method 1 or Method 2 passes.
Overspeed is mandatory. A missing or failed electrical-switch result fails this section even when a safety method passes.
TST5Unintended motionUp Empty / Down 125%

Measure car movement from landing sill to car sill after unintended-motion detection.

Up empty · Down —
NOT RUN
NOT RUN
Pass: movement ≤48 inches in each direction.
Per A17.1-2019 §§8.10.2.2.2(jj)(2) and 2.19.2.2(b), the stopped position must be limited to 48 inches maximum in both directions.
TST7Ascending overspeedOverspeed trip speed

Record the speed where ascending-overspeed protection activates.

Empty car
NOT RUN
Pass: strictly above 125% of rated speed below 349 fpm; strictly above 115% at 349 fpm and above.
Per the verified TST7 controller criteria used for this field test, overspeed trip speed must be strictly above 125% of contract speed below 349 fpm, or strictly above 115% at 349 fpm and above. Acceptance test reference: A17.1-2019 §8.10.2.2.2(jj)(1).
TST9Final LimitTop and bottom final devices

On inspection operation, verify the Final Limit removes power from the motor and brake and prevents normal movement.

Empty car
Per A17.1-2019 §§8.10.2.2.2(ff)(4) and 2.25.3.2, operation of the Final Limit must remove power from the motor and brake and prevent movement by normal operating devices in both directions.
TST10Brake holdMain and emergency brake · 125% load

Performed every time to verify each individual brake can hold 125% load. The car must not move at all: 0 inches of movement passes; any movement fails.

125% load —
Pass: the car remains completely stationary for each test — 0 inches of movement. Any movement is a fail.
A brake-hold test fails if the car moves at all. Correct the deficiency and retest before acceptance.
RUNRun125% Lower and hold run + 100% capacity

Complete the 125% Lower and hold run and the rated-load / 100% capacity run as separate tests.

125% load —

Verify the control lowers the car without overspeeding, lands without overshooting, and does not open any safety circuits.

Rated load —

Complete the up-and-down run at rated load. Pass only when the run is completed with no deficiencies.

Run results: record the 125% Lower and hold run and the 100% capacity up-and-down run independently.
See A17.1-2019 §§8.10.2.2.2(cc)(3)(-a) and 8.10.2.2.2(v). Correct any lower-and-hold or capacity-run deficiency and retest before acceptance.
